How it Works
The best time to book your newborn portrait session is when you are five or six months pregnant. This leaves us ample time to get to know one another and discuss creative concepts for your shoot, so you’ll be completely comfortable during this unique photography session, and I’ll have a full understanding of your vision for the final artwork.
For a limited period of time, when booking your newborn portrait session, you can also book a maternity portrait session at no cost—just my way of saying thank you for the opportunity to capture such a special moment in your life.
Of course, if your baby isn’t born on your due date (which is often the case), this is no problem at all. Once the baby is born, just give me a call as soon as you can, and we’ll confirm a session to take place within the baby’s first 14 days.
Partners and siblings are welcome to join in your newborn portrait session. Your session will be held either at my comfortable home studio in Woodford, London, or I am happy to come to your home or an outdoor location of your choosing (weather permitting) at an additional cost. Please get in touch for a quote or for more information.
No matter the location, you’ll have full access to all my charming props and outfits, which are made of non-toxic, organic materials.
Newborn sessions typically last between up to 4 hours, with lots of time for nursing and napping, so the experience is relaxing and enjoyable for the entire family. Healthy snacks and drinks will be available at no extra cost to keep tummies happy, and every effort will be made to ensure your session is memorable and fun.
viewing you images & choosing your artwork
Within one week of your session, you’ll receive approximately 30 beautiful digital photographs of your newborn, with colour and black-and-white options to choose from. We’ll then have a final design appointment where you’ll decide which products you’d like to create using the images.
There are many different options to choose from when deciding on your bespoke artwork, including wall art in traditional or floating frames, canvas wall prints, adorable birth announcement cards, and beautiful albums in a variety of styles. You can even opt for a custom online gallery that allows you to share your favourite session images while on the go.
1. How old should a baby be for newborn portraits?
Ideally, newborns should be photographed within the first or second week of their lives.
2. If my baby is already two weeks old, have I missed the window for a newborn photography session?
Infants up to six weeks old can be photographed with similar results to photographing a newborn. However, the only way to guarantee that you’ll get exactly the newborn portrait you’re envisioning is by booking your session as early as possible.
3. Are props and costumes provided?
Yes, I will provide a collection of charming props and costumes made of safe, organic materials. During our pre-session consultation, we can also discuss which props would be best suited to your vision for the final artwork to ensure that I’ll have absolutely everything you need.
4. What happens if a session is interrupted by nursing?
Sessions run for up to four hours, so there’s lots of time for nursing, naps and snuggles. Each session is meant to be relaxing and enjoyable, so there’s never any pressure to rush, and it’s absolutely no problem to nurse or cuddle your newborn as needed. Parents should note that babies tend to get hungrier during portrait sessions, so I recommend bringing an extra bottle if you’re bottle-feeding.
5. Are there any tips for keeping my baby calm during the shoot?
Once babies have full tummies and are kept very warm and snug, they usually stay calm and relaxed throughout the session.
6. How do I book a session when I’m not sure exactly when the baby will be born?
When making your booking initially, a tentative session is scheduled according to your due date. Then, once you’ve had the baby, please get in touch as soon as you can to confirm the date and time of your session.
I will accommodate last-minute requests where possible, but making your booking while you’re five or six months pregnant is the best way to secure a spot while your baby is still a newborn, and will also guarantee that you get everything you could hope for out of your session.
7. Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes, gift certificates are available for all Petite Feet photography sessions and packages. They’re a wonderful gift for expectant parents, and perfect for baby showers!
